About us

Becky Hartman, CPC, LCE, MBA

Hello! I'm Becky Hartman, your Kids Program Director and Coach for Parenting and Nutrition at True North 4 Kids! As a mom, educator, and life coach, I crafted these kids' events and summer camp with a vision for an exceptional experience for kids to get outdoors. After being disappointed by past local camps, I drew on my teaching, engineering, and nature-loving background to create an engaging, educational haven for ALL kids to enjoy. Also, I saw disconnection between the kids and camp counselors at past camps and wanted much more for my kids, which led to True North Expedition Summer Camp and Kids Night Out being dreamt and born.

My focus is on active participation in nature through various activities, games, and experiments, ensuring a summer that's both fun and educational. Join me in fostering your child's love for STEM, leadership, nature, and the great outdoors. Your support fuels my commitment to nurturing future leaders through exploration and connection with science and nature. I would be thrilled to have your child join the group for a unique and uplifting experience at True North Expedition Summer Camp and Kids Night Out events where a kid can adventure outside instead of being in front of a screen or media!

John Sprouse, 1LT, NLP, RYT

Greetings! I'm John, True North 4 Kids Events Leader, Specialty Course Instructor, Certified Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Life Coach, U.S. Army Lieutenant, Yoga Instructor (RYT), and Leadership Mentor. I thrive on propelling individuals and teams beyond challenges to achieve transformative results.

My diverse background in backpacking, military experience, coupled with NLP and life coaching expertise, allows me to work with True North to positively change the trajectory of the future generation of kids. Drawing from my experience as an Army Lieutenant and more than 10 years of experience working in teams and being a head counselor at summer camp, I instill values of leadership, discipline, communication, and teamwork, translating military strategies into tangible success for everyone.

With a passion for balance and well-being, I leverage yoga principles to foster mindfulness and resilience. My mission is to empower kids to become stronger, more resilient, and the best leaders for the future by creating supportive environments for them to grown and learn.

Mike Blubaugh

Hi, I'm Mike, True North’s Assistant Camp Director! I’m an Ohio native and father to two wonderful girls who will join us at camp this year. My goals for this summer are to build a strong sense of community among the campers, encourage everyone to step outside their comfort zones, and foster an appreciation for the natural world. I'm particularly looking forward to leading activities with a focus on science, drawing inspiration from my studies in Molecular Genetics at The Ohio State University.

Outside of camp, you can find me fishing, hiking, rock climbing and exploring, and I'm eager to incorporate these into our camp adventures. I also enjoy bringing people together through collaboration and teamwork. When things get tricky, I believe in open communication and an open mind to find solutions. My approach to working with kids is all about being patient, positive, and offering lots of encouragement. I like to keep the energy up with fun games and by jumping into all the activities myself. Plus, being certified in First Aid and CPR means I'm ready to help keep everyone safe!

By the end of the summer, I hope to leave a positive mark on the campers, helping them build confidence, ditch the screens, and share my love for the outdoors. We are going to have a fantastic summer!
